It's here.

LEGO 42083. Remember the code. Remember the price too, before reaching for your wallet. £329.99 RRP.

If we could get a time machine and go a few years into the future (like the folks at Bugatti seem to have done with the Chiron), we think we'd see a future where, along with the Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056), this latest, hyper-realistic set from LEGO is commanding high prices on the resale market.

Like the Porsche 911, the Chiron will likely get discounted heavily before being discontinued, probably in 24-36 months. We can see prices going as low as the £200-250, IF you're willing to wait ...

For now, we are just sitting back and admiring the set with no skin in the game. Here are some interesting facts:
  • Interpreting the Bugatti Chiron’s W16 engine led to the design team producing the most sophisticated LEGO Technic engine yet. It features 16 cylinders – each one fully moveable thanks to two crankshafts. The gearbox is equally as complex, with eight fully functioning gears.
  • Two new elements were molded to capture the Bugatti Chiron’s aviation-tested wheels. Firstly, overlapping rims to create the illusion of the low-profile style, and secondly a disc break to connect the rims to the chassis. The four-wheel drive functionality is another key feature, giving the model high-performance handling.
  • The dashboard, speedometer, iconic center line, and flat-bottom steering wheel are just a few of the interior details that speak to the luxury and craftsmanship of the real Bugatti Chiron. The car’s curvaceous seats are also realistically recreated, through a series of panel, beam, and tile elements.
  • The set includes a unique serial number located beneath the hood further adding to its collectors' appeal, and overall comes in at 3,599 pieces.

For the die hard fans among you, LEGO has published a series of podcasts giving a unique insight into the design and production behind the LEGO model, and the car itself.

In all the hype, one can't help but feel sorry for what will now be known as the "poor(er) man's Bugatti Chiron replica" - the super miniature Speed Champions model - surely its days are numbered so worth snapping up....
